Add the new Facebook “Like” Button Widget Plugin on your WordPress Blog
Filed in: Open Source, Web, Webmaster Add comments
Add the new Facebook “Like” Button Widget Plugin on your WordPress Blog. Download it here.
Instructions:
1) Download the “Facebook-Like-Button-Widget.zip” file
2) Extract and upload `facebook-like-widget.php` to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory
3) Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
4) That’s it!
It should look like this
I’ve given the widget a style ID so you can target it in CSS. The id is “facebook_like”.
If you’ve installed it on your blog, please post your URL in the comments below. Thanks.

I just installed this. Took about 30 seconds and works like a charm on both post and pages. You can see it work here at the bottom of the post.
http://blog.patyuen.com/2010/02/23/are-you-a-bad-parent/
Hopefully, there will be some options added in the future to position this at the top or bottom. For some reason, there is about 4-5 blank lines added after the button. I see this on other WP sites too so it’s not just me. Anyone know why or how to fix this?
April 22nd, 2010 at 4:38 pm
I just figured out the blank section under the button is probably for the avatars of people who clicked like.

It’ll be nice to have a place to see a summary of all the posts liked, who liked them and links to those posts and users. Even better if the list can be sorted by users, number of likes, or post title or date.
April 22nd, 2010 at 9:17 pm
Installed at http://www.brandonbullock.com. I had previously hard-coded this but wanted it in a plugin format. I tweaked the code a little to get rid of the white-space after the first “faces” as I probably won’t get that many “likes”. I changed the height:auto to be height:75px and that helped. Also for others looking for customization you can do things like faces=false or colorscheme=dark. FB presents you with these options in a code-generator at their site and you can just change them manually in the plugin. Thanks for putting this out there! Now if I change my template I won’t have to hard-code the single.php file again and again.
April 22nd, 2010 at 9:17 pm
We’ve got it installed over at http://www.blippitt.com. Agreed, I’d love to put it between the post title and the content.

you might add controls of not putting on pages as well as posts, but works great. My only concern is that few will bother to like it and will be obvious that i have little site traffic and buzz now but may change soon!

Jeez AJ, you’re an early-adopter all right! Well done. I installed it to my blog at http://thenobsinternetguy.com. Within a handful of minutes 4 people had already clicked it for my latest post. After that, I announced your plugin on my Facebook wall too. Not that I’ve got a big following though, yet
I’m intrigued how many 1000s of FB users absolutely HATE it when any new changes are brought in. The “Like” button is no exception.

Greetings!!
My appreciation for sharing with us all this lovely plugin!
I got to play around a little with the CSS…so very cool for adding that tip
I noticed that ‘Christian’ above me commented on “how not to show the Like button on pages…” ~ i was actually wondering about that too…
Or perhaps if there is a way to exclude it from showing in “specific” pages…
I know there is a way, though i’m not sure…
If anyone knows of a way to share…that would be sooo fantastically awesome!!
Or if I ‘hopefully’ find a way…then i will most definitely share on here
Thank you again

@John:
Yes, you can make it small with CSS, I did this on my site:
http://www.hexenladen-hamburg.de/blog/
Use the CSS container “facebook_like”,and add “height:30px;” or whatever value that best fits you to it. Hope it helps!
I also edited the plug-in to add a height parameter to the iFrame, not sure it is needed but it can’t hurt to add it either.

It seemed to add a little extra white space after it on http://www.ymbs.net/ but still not too bad though and really easy.

I tried the wordpress plugin facebook like from wordpress but it does not validate (XHTML Transitional). Do this validate sir?
June 22nd, 2010 at 9:41 pm
If it doesn’t validate, it’s Facebook. The plugin is merely an iframe with a link. Nothing more.
