IETester: Internet Explorer tester for the web soldier

April 23rd, 2008 No Comments »

Ahh… the realities of a web soldier (designer/programmer/whatever you want to call them) - Internet Explorer. Just like a dream… Sometimes it’s a lot of fun and most of the time a nightmare.

So here’s a new tool to help us through the day aside from biting our fingers and pulling our hairs. IETester.

IETester is a free WebBrowser that allows you to have the rendering and javascript engines of IE8 beta 1, IE7 IE 6 and IE5.5 on Vista and XP, as well as the installed IE in the same process.

Multiple IE is cool but I didn’t have any luck installing it on Vista (*cough* $uckS *cough*).

Sigh, Internet Explorer. Can’t live with it, can’t live without it. :(

IE7Pro 2.1 is going to bring back some love to Internet Explorer 7 (hopefully)

March 24th, 2008 3 Comments »

ie7pro

We all know that a lot of (if not most) web developers love using Firefox for development. Mainly because of its simplicity, community support and functionality to extend the browser using add-ons.

It is also not a secret that we know that 60% or more* of our web users are still using IE. Most likely, half of those are IE7.

Now, to even the game of preferred development browser (sort of), there is a new update for IE7Pro (version 2.1).

IE7Pro is an app to extend your IE7 installation adding lots of Firefox-like features which you (web developer) need.

ie7pro1

The app might get you to use IE7 more for development. Really. Why? It packs tons of improvements to IE7 and extend it like Firefox.

Some main features includes

  • Enhancement of IE’s Tabbed Browsing Capabilities
  • Super Drag and Drop
  • Mouse Gestures (ala Opera)
  • Crash Recovery (yeah! we need this!)
  • Save Page to Image
  • Quick Proxy Switcher
  • AD Blocker (finally!)
  • Greasy monkey alike User Script
  • Inline Search
  • Spell Check
  • And a lot more…

More screenshots after the jump.

ie7pro3

So, do you want to give IE7 another shot? Or do you want to simply check out what IE7Pro can offer? If your answer is yes to any of those, then get the app directly here.

It might be worth your time.

Windows Live SkyDrive ups its free online storage to 5 GB

February 21st, 2008 No Comments »

Windows Live SkyDrive increased the free online storage from a measly 1GB to 5 GB. SkyDrive is also out of Beta. The free online storage from Microsoft is available for Windows or Macintosh computers with Firefox 1.5 or higher, or Internet Explorer 6 or higher.

Windows Live SkyDrive provides integration with Windows Live Spaces to allow users to add a module to their Spaces displaying their public shared folders. Windows Live SkyDrive also displays navigation links to different parts of Windows Live Spaces, including Windows Live Events for tighter integration.

The only thing is, there are still no desktop software tools (which I know of) that supports batch uploads to the online drive. And I bet you, it gonna suck uploading files one by one.

Yahoo! rejects Microsoft bid. Says it undervalues the company

February 11th, 2008 1 Comment »

From TechCrunch:

YAHOO! BOARD OF DIRECTORS SAYS MICROSOFT’S PROPOSAL SUBSTANTIALLY UNDERVALUES YAHOO!

Sunnyvale, Calif., February 11, 2008 — Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO), a leading global Internet company, today said the Yahoo! Board of Directors has carefully reviewed Microsoft’s unsolicited proposal with Yahoo!’s management team and financial and legal advisors and has unanimously concluded that the proposal is not in the best interests of Yahoo! and our stockholders.

After careful evaluation, the Board believes that Microsoft’s proposal substantially undervalues Yahoo! including our global brand, large worldwide audience, significant recent investments in advertising platforms and future growth prospects, free cash flow and earnings potential, as well as our substantial unconsolidated investments. The Board of Directors is continually evaluating all of its strategic options in the context of the rapidly evolving industry environment and we remain committed to pursuing initiatives that maximize value for all stockholders.

Goldman, Sachs & Co., Lehman Brothers and Moelis & Company are acting as financial advisors to Yahoo!. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP is acting as legal advisor to Yahoo!, and Munger Tolles & Olson LLP is acting as counsel to the outside directors of Yahoo!.

This is going to be a lenghty negotiation between the two camps.
